The much anticipated Supermotocross rounds are finally here, and this past Saturday at zMAX Dragway at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, the first race did not disappoint. It was an exciting atmosphere with a unique blend of a supercross and motocross track. A few select fans spent Friday with the team, enjoying time with the riders and crew, touring the rig, having lunch, and being part of the pit experience. Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki #94 Ken Roczen got off to a good start with a 5th overall performance. Pipes Motorsports Group teammate Colt Nichols #45 also had a good day with a top-ten result on his Twisted Tea HEP Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance. Kyle Chisholm #11 finished 21st overall on his Suzuki RM-Z450.
It was a solid start for Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki #94, Ken Roczen. Ken ran up front all day, showing that he remains a force to be reckoned with, starting with qualifying 6th overall. He followed that up with two impressive main events, going 5-5 for 5th overall.
For the #45 Colt Nichols, it would be a battle all day long. Having not scored enough points throughout the year to automatically qualify for the main events, Colt has to race the LCQ at all three rounds. Although qualifying times didn’t matter for the #45, Nichols made a statement with the 9th fastest lap time during the qualifying sessions. He carried that momentum into the main events with a 10-10 for 9th overall.
#11 Kyle Chisholm had a bit of bad luck on race day falling under the weather, but the veteran was determined to race. He went 21-20 for 20th overall.
The next round of the Supermotocross is this Saturday, September 14th, at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. You can catch all the action live on PEACOCK TV, starting with Race Day Live at 6:30 AM PST, followed by the first race at noon PST.
