MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – Twisted Tea Suzuki Presented by Progressive Insurance returned to AMA Pro Motocross competition this weekend with Colt Nichols aboard the No. 45 Suzuki RM-Z450 at the Budds Creek National in Mechanicsville, Maryland.
The weekend marked Nichols‘ first Pro Motocross appearance since Hangtown as the team returned to outdoor competition ahead of the upcoming SMX Playoffs.
Challenging weather and muddy track conditions added another element to an already demanding Budds Creek circuit. Nichols battled through a difficult opening moto before regrouping for Moto 2, where he improved to a 23rd-place finish. His 34-23 moto scores resulted in 29th overall on the day.
While the results weren’t what Nichols or the team had hoped for, Budds Creek provided valuable race time as the group turns its attention toward Ironman Raceway and the final preparations before the SMX Playoffs.

“It was our first race back since Hangtown. It was a pretty rough one to say the least. The mud obviously made it a little chaotic. I didn’t put myself in very good positions all day. I really struggled to get going. It’s pretty tough coming in this late in the series. Just have to be a lot better than what I was today. So we’ll get back to work this week and try to do better at Ironman.”
Dustin Pipes – Team Principal
“Tough day at the office. We’ll regroup for next weekend at Ironman so we can start the SMX playoffs on the right foot.”
