Lakewood, CO — June 7, 2025
The third round of the Pro Motocross Outdoor National Championship took place at Thunder Valley MX Park in Lakewood, Colorado this past Saturday. The weekend began under threatening skies as rain forced the cancellation of Friday’s press activities. Fortunately, the storm cleared just in time, allowing the sun to shine for a full day of racing in the mile-high terrain.
“The weekend didn’t go that great,” admitted Team Manager Larry Brooks. “Colt [Nichols] had some bike issues in the first moto and didn’t finish. But in the second moto, he got a great start and finished 9th. He rode really well—strong the entire moto. He ended up 14th overall. Benoit [Paturel] also had bike problems, and in the second moto a part broke and he had to pull off the track. His finishes weren’t great—30th and 36th. It happens sometimes. It was a bummer, but the highlight was Colt’s second moto performance. That’s the rider we know he is.”
Despite a rough start to the day, Colt Nichols delivered a gutsy ride in moto two aboard his #45 Twisted Tea Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance. After not finishing the first moto due to mechanical issues, Nichols launched off the gate in moto two and charged to a strong 9th-place finish, earning 14th overall on the day.
“The day was a bit weird for me,” said Nichols. “Qualifying went terrible, and the bike issues carried over into the first moto, so I wasn’t able to finish. But the team rallied and we rebounded well for the second moto. I got a good start and brought it home in 9th. Definitely something to build on.”
It was a frustrating day for Benoit Paturel on the #102 Twisted Tea Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance. After encountering issues in moto one, a mechanical failure in moto two forced him to retire early, resulting in moto scores of 30-36.
“We had a bad day with the bike and the altitude,” Paturel said. “Really disappointed, but we move forward. We’re going to fight again on Saturday and make it good.”
The Pro Motocross Championship continues next Saturday, June 14, at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, for Round 4 of the series. Catch the action live on Peacock TV, starting with Race Day Live at 7:00 AM PST and the first gate drop at 10:00 AM PST.
