Prairie City, CA — The second round of the Pro Motocross Nationals brought intense heat and tougher conditions as the series rolled into the legendary Hangtown National this past Saturday. With temperatures soaring above 100 degrees, the day proved to be the hottest of the season so far. Despite the brutal weather, fans packed the hillsides of Prairie City OHV Park early to tour the pits and catch all the qualifying action.
“It was a hot one,” said Team Manager Larry Brooks. “It was over 100 degrees. They actually had to cut five minutes from the second moto because of the heat. Everyone was struggling to make it. Benoit Paturel finished 13th and Colt [Nichols] finished 14th. It wasn’t one of their greatest days, but they survived it and are still somewhat in the points. Now we’ll move on to Colorado and do better.”
Benoit Paturel battled through the elements and challenges on track to finish 13th overall aboard his #102 Twisted Tea Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance, with moto finishes of 14-13. Paturel currently sits 11th in the Pro Motocross Championship standings.
“So a little bit disappointed about the race overall,” Paturel commented. “But the riding was not bad. I missed my start in the first moto and got tangled up with another rider in the first lap of the second moto. I kept fighting to the end. We’re going to fight harder to be back in the top ten next week. We’ll take the positives, leave the negatives, and move forward.”
Colt Nichols experienced a challenging start to the day but found his stride in the second moto after a critical bike adjustment. Nichols went 19-13 in the motos for a 14th-place overall finish on his #45 Twisted Tea Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance.
“Up and down day,” said Nichols. “The first moto was absolutely terrible. I got a bad start and just rode around and ended up 19th. We made a bike change for the second moto and it worked really well. It was a really positive improvement. I felt like I rode like myself and was in a good battle for 11th, 12th, and 13th toward the end. It’s something to build off of heading into next weekend.”
The Pro Motocross Championship heads to Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, Colorado for Round 3 this Saturday, June 7, 2025. Coverage begins with Race Day Live at 9:00 AM PST on the Peacock TV app, followed by the first gate drop at 12:00 PM PST.
