The first mud race of the year took place this past Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The 12th round of the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship series saw weather play a significant role, with rain falling both leading up to the race and on race day.
“Probably one of the toughest conditions I’ve ever seen in Supercross,” said Team Manager Larry Brooks. “It ended well. Ken Roczen reaggravated his ankle during practice. He wasn’t even planning to race, but at the last minute, he decided to go for it. He finished 4th in the main event. Colt Nichols ended up 8th, and Kyle Chisholm finished 21st—his bike didn’t make it to the end of the race. With the track conditions and how thick the mud was, I’m surprised any bikes made it to the finish. It was incredibly difficult. We’re happy with tonight and proud of our guys; it was a tough day for everyone. They worked really hard. We’re just glad to get out of here in one piece.”
“We only had one practice today, which I’m totally fine with,” said Ken Roczen. “I reaggravated the ankle I hurt earlier, and it became more of a problem today with these conditions. I wasn’t sure if I was going to race, but I ended up lining up. We definitely made a night of it. The conditions were brutally tough. I somehow worked my way up to 3rd for most of the race. Everything was going smoothly until the last lap. My bike started acting up—I stalled it twice, but I got it going again each time. I managed to finish in 4th place. I wish we could’ve made the podium; that would’ve been amazing. But at the same time, we’ll take what we can get.”
“It was a much better night for me,” said Colt Nichols. “In the heat races, I got a great start and was in 3rd. I ended up crashing on the first lap, which dropped me back to 20th, but I fought my way back to 5th. I didn’t get the start I wanted in the main event, but I rode my way to an 8th-place finish. So, overall, I’m really happy with it. It was definitely a step in the right direction.”
“Super short day for me,” said Kyle Chisholm. “We only had one quick practice. In my heat race, I was working my way up through the pack and was in qualifying position, but I had a clutch issue and couldn’t finish the race. We got the bike fixed up, and I ripped the holeshot in the Last Chance Qualifier. I finished 2nd, riding it smart. In the main event, I had another bike issue and couldn’t finish the race. It was a bummer. The track was incredibly tough, and the mechanics really worked their butts off to keep everything going.”
Racing continues this Saturday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for the 13th round of the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship series.
