The second round of the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship did not disappoint this past Saturday in San Diego, California. Ken Roczen, in front of a packed house at Snap Dragon Stadium, kept things interesting all night, battling up front on his #94 RM-Z450 Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki. Teammate #11 Kyle Chisholm kept things rolling on his Twisted Tea Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance, and #45 Colt Nichols bounced back from a forgettable opening round.
Very close to finishing on the podium, Roczen finished 4th in San Diego. While it was not the result Roczen hoped for, he shared after the race, “I think my race overall was really good. We are in a good spot; I’m happy with it. We had a really good race.” Ken is now 3rd overall in series points for the premiere class with 40 points, just 2 points shy of first place.
Kyle Chisholm had a commendable round fighting through some adversity. After missing a transfer spot in his heat race, the veteran of 20 years of professional racing rode the Last Chance Qualifier. “Time to make it happen or go home,” said Kyle Chisholm. “I did not want to go home and not be in the main event. I ripped an awesome start, came out second, and ran there for most of the race. I ended up third in the LCQ.” He followed that up with a solid main event with 20th place. “I rode better in the main than last week,” said Kyle Chisholm. “The result on paper is not where I want to be. It’s early in the season; a lot of races to go.”
Colt Nichols got things back on track with a solid heat race and the main event. The main event finish was not the desired outcome, but it was definitely a step in the right direction. Getting it done in his heat race, the #45 Twisted Tea Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance got out to a decent start, working his way into a transfer position for a 9th place result. He struggled in the main event with an 18th-place result. “It was a tough one,” said Colt Nichols. “I got a bad start in the main and struggled a little bit to get a flow in the track. Just needed to get through this main. I definitely have some work to do. Going to go back home and work on a few things a little at a time. We will be better next weekend.”
Supercross racing heads back to Anaheim for one more California round. The third round of the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship will be back at Angel Stadium this Saturday, January 25th, 2025. You can catch all the action live on Peacock TV.
