Supercross is back! Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, played host to the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross championship opening round. It was a great day for Motorcycle racing. Fans came out early to the fan fest to watch qualifying, meet their favorite riders, and take part in the festivities. By the time the fireworks started and the opening ceremonies were underway, the stadium was completely sold out.
Ken Roczen started the series off in impressive fashion. The #94 Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki struggled early in qualifying, finishing outside the top ten. However, Roczen mentioned in a later interview, “I was pissed how I finished qualifying, but I was calm about it. It’s not where I wanted to be, but I didn’t really care. I know how to race. I’ll be fine.” Sure enough, Ken got off to a strong start in his heat race and took the lead on the second lap by making a pass around the outside of the sand section, ultimately winning the heat. Roczen carried that momentum into the main event, where he managed to come out of the first turn in a strong position and successfully avoid the chaos. By the fifth lap, he made the pass for second place and maintained that position for the rest of the race.
Team veteran Kyle Chisholm, who is in his final year of professional racing, lined up for A1 one last time. He had a commendable day with a 9th place finish in his heat race, followed by a 20th place finish in the main event on his #11 Twisted Tea Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance.
Colt Nichols did not have the opening round anyone was hoping for. Fortunately, the series is long, with many races to come. The #45 Twisted Tea Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance found himself caught in the chaos of the first lap, going down in the second corner, which derailed his chances of finishing in a transfer position. Racing the last chance qualifier, Colt did not get the best start but quickly moved up into the top ten; Nichols was in striking distance of a transfer spot but fell just short as he ran out of laps. It was a disappointing debut, but fans can expect him to rebound in San Diego this weekend.
This Saturday, the series moves to Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, for the second round of Supercross racing. Catch the event live on Peacock TV. Early coverage begins with Race Day Live at noon PST, and racing starts with the opening ceremonies at 5:30 PM PST.
