It was an exciting weekend for Supercross fans in Perth, Australia. HBF Park hosted the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the World Supercross Championship in a double-header format, a challenging setup that featured two back-to-back days of racing. HBF Stadium was near capacity on Friday; Saturday was a sold-out event.
For Pipes Motorsports Group, it was different from the team result everyone has been working for. Fortunately, Ken Roczen had a stellar performance with a pair of podiums. Starting with night one, Roczen finished the round 2nd overall. He followed that up with 3rd overall on night two.
Colt Nichols had a solid first night, but in the early stages of day two, his luck changed, crashing while trying to avoid a down rider; his bike caught the rear wheel of the down bike, causing Nichols to go down. He was unable to finish the race, but a visit to the hospital determined there were no major injuries, and he is expecting to be back for the series finale in one week.
Kyle Chisholm led the way for the team in the 250cc class with two solid nights of racing. The veteran continues to show that he still has it, with consistent results.
Derek Kelly, still fresh off an injury and getting back into a rhythm of racing, struggled in the opening round. However, he made a lot of progress and had a commendable day, going 9-10-11 for 11th overall. With more time on the bike and this break in the schedule coming up, there’s a lot of optimism for him this coming round.
The 2024 World Supercross Championship concludes on December 4th on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi at the Etihad Arena. With a lot of points on the line, anything is possible it will be an exciting series finale. For more information, go to wsxchampionship.com
