Revival of Supercross in Philadelphia after Four Decades!

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 29, 2024—The roar of AMA Supercross bikes returns to Philadelphia after an absence of more than 40 years, marking a significant milestone for fans of the sport. The last time the city hosted an AMA Supercross race was on August 8, 1980, when Suzuki’s Mark Barnett secured a commendable fourth place. Despite the passage of time, the enthusiasm and dedication of Philly Supercross enthusiasts have remained unwavering.

Excitement filled the air as fans eagerly gathered in the paddocks, old timers reminiscing about the historic event and everyone anticipating the action-packed races ahead. Although Ken Roczen was absent, fans seized the rare opportunity to admire and photograph the #94 Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki bike up close throughout the day. Despite the absence of their star athlete, the Pipes Motorsports Group was well represented by teammates #11 Kyle Chisholm and #12 Shane McElrath, who took to the track aboard their Twisted Tea H.E.P. Suzuki RM Z 450’s.

#12 Shane McElrath

Shane McElrath delivered a commendable performance aboard the #12 Twisted Tea H.E.P. Suzuki despite facing challenges. A fall during his heat race, while in a transfer position, forced him to navigate through the Last Chance Qualifier to secure a spot in the main event. Battling through adversity, McElrath found himself in 19th place after the opening lap. However, his determination propelled him forward, steadily gaining ground to cross the finish line in 15th place after overtaking competitors.

#11 Kyle Chisholm

Meanwhile, Kyle Chisholm faced a challenging evening, nursing an ankle injury sustained in previous rounds. Despite his best efforts, the seasoned rider, still recovering, was unable to secure a spot in the main event. With limited practice due to his injury, Chisholm remains optimistic about his recovery ahead of the next race in Denver.

As the 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series enters its final stretch, with only two rounds remaining, all eyes are set on Denver, Colorado, for the 16th round. Coverage of the event will commence at 11:30 AM PST with Race Day Live on the Peacock App, followed by the first gate drop at 4:00 PM PST on Peacock TV.
