Ken Roczen 5th in Seattle

The Seattle Seahawks Lumen Field was packed this past Saturday for the 11th round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. Thousands of fans attended Fan Fest to get a closer look at their favorite riders. The Pipes Motorsports Group Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki and Twisted TEA HEP Suzuki riders were no exception with fans lining up at the paddock to watch the team’s mechanics work on the RM-Z 450’s.

Love Moto Stop Cancer – Win Ken Roczen’s Bike

#94 Ken Roczen

Ken Roczen battled a challenging track all day. In his heat race, the #94 Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki rider had the crowd holding their breath as he crashed in the opening lap of his heat race. When entering the long rhythm section, Roczen’s bike’s front and back tires took different ruts, causing the Suzuki front end to go one way as the rear end went the opposite way, launching Ken from his bike onto the tabletop of the oncoming jump. The rest of the field raced by as he dodged the oncoming traffic, trying to get back to his Suzuki. He finished the race, but the time gained on him was too significant, and he did not go directly into the main event.

In unfamiliar territory, Roczen lined up for 450cc class Last Chance Qualifier. His first time visiting the LCQ in the premier class; having only raced it once in the 250cc class years before.  In the LCQ, he got out to a great start and put a commanding lead on the pack to a swift win. With little time to spare, mechanic Billy Hartle and Team Manager Larry Brooks quickly got the #94 Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki race ready.

Lining up for the main event, Ken got a great start around turn one, nearly grabbing the holeshot, rounding lap one in 2nd place. As the race wore on and the track became more enduring, with one extra race on the night, Ken’s competition began to have the edge as he lost a few positions. He leaves Seattle with a 5th place finish. Ken is currently 4th in the series points.

#12 Shane McElrath

Twisted Tea HEP Suzuki rider #12 Shane McElrath had a solid night in 16th place. His starts were dialed as he rounded turn one in the front of the pack of his heat and main event race. In his heat, McElrath narrowly escaped getting pinched in turn one off the start as he got a rocket start into the first corner. The rest of the field quickly filled the inside of turn one as Shane charged around the outside. The stacked field soon began to separate, and McElrath finished in 8th place.

In the main event, the #12 RM-Z450 Suzuki got an even better start, coming around turn one in third place. As the race continued and the track became more challenging, Shane settled into 16th place, where he finished.

#11 Kyle Chisholm

Kyle Chisholm was very close to making it into the main event on the #11 Twisted Tea HEP Suzuki in Seattle. However, he crashed short of his goal in the final moments of an intense last-chance qualifier. Chisholm fell hard, battling from 2nd to 5th place in the LCQ. Fortunately, Kyle is okay and will be ready for St. Louis this Saturday.

Supercross heads to St. Louis, Missouri, for the 12th Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series round. Racing will begin with the first gate drop at 4:00 PM PST. You can catch all the action live on PEACOCK TV.
