Ken Roczen led from start to finish Saturday night. The #94 Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki went into the home of our title sponsor’s competitor and planted the Progressive Insurance flag right in the heart of State Farm Stadium. Ken Roczen led every lap on the track aboard his RM-Z450 Suzuki, crossing the finish line in the main event with a 4.781-second lead on second place. It’s the first win for Roczen in 2024 and the second supercross win for Pipes Motorsports Group with the #94 Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki.
DIXXON Flannel Co., a partner of Pipes Motorsports Group whose worldwide flannel sales originate out of Tempe, Arizona, was front and center with unique DIXXON FLANNEL-themed graphics for both the Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki and the Twisted Tea HEP Suzuki. Shane McElrath, #12 Twisted Tea HEP Suzuki, might have had you scratching your head as he uncharacteristically finished tenth in the heat race after running in second and gradually falling out of a qualifying position. McElrath had been battling a cold for the better part of the week; making it through his heat race was a significant accomplishment in a sport with costly consequences when an athlete is not 100%. In the LCQ, McElrath battled teammate Kyle Chisolm for the lead in the opening laps before settling into the lead for the overall win in the LCQ. Maintaining that momentum in the Main, Shane finished in a solid 14th place.
Kyle Chisholm, #11 on his Twisted TEA HEP Suzuki, had a commendable night on his RM-Z 450 Suzuki, finishing in the top 20. He’s not quite where the veteran rider expects to finish, but 19th placed in another consistent main event is a step in the right direction.
In two weeks, the series will reconvene in Arlington, Texas, at AT&T Stadium for the 7th round of the 2024 AMA Monster Energy Supercross series.
